Karnataka High Court Tells the BDA To Mend Its Ways

The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) gets a rap from the court.

🎳 Strike 1 - The Bangalore Development Authority cannot auction Arkavathy Layout sites anymore, says a Karnataka High Court order.

🎳 Strike 2 - The Court feels that the “BDA cannot act as a private real estate company,” maximizing profits and lacking the required empathy to solve existing disputes.

A Quick Background

Justice Suraj Govindaraj responded to a petition filed by Indumathi and Hemanth Babu Shekar, heirs of G Babu Shekar. The BDA executed an absolute sale deed with him for a site on 7th February, 2017.

What Went Wrong?

😳 In 2021, the petitioners were informed of a new BDA road across their 4,000 sq. ft. site.

🤷‍♀️ Admitting their mistake, the BDA proposed an alternative land parcel at Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout, only 35 km away. (By real estate advertisement standards, that's just a 20 minute drive away, FYI.)

✅ The petitioners want sites to be allotted to them, instead of third-party auctions that fetch the BDA more money and guess what? The Court agrees.

What’s Next - The June 7th court hearing on the matter.

The BDA’s Keyword - Empathy.
