Supreme Court Calling for the Demolition Man Please

Demolishing Supertech Towers Noida a Challenge

Real estate developer Supertech is looking at an all expenses paid borne demolition derby as the Supreme Court of India recently ordered that the twin 40-storey towers of its Emerald Court project in Noida, hold your breath, be demolished. Supertech, which had already built 32 of the proposed 40 floors in both towers, will also have to refund all the money to affected home buyers in addition to the cost of demolition.

Backstory

Supertech started construction and sales of the 915 residential apartments and shops in the twin towers situated in Sector 93A, Noida, without proper authorisation and thus, in violation of all local building laws. Finding the construction illegal and supporting documents fake, the Allahabad High Court had ordered the towers to be demolished on April 11, 2014. It took another 7 years of legal proceedings for the Supreme Court to uphold the lower court's decision.

Destroyed in Seconds?

Nope, actually it's complicated. There are existing residential towers in close proximity where people reside and Noida authorities have no experience in safely demolishing a high-rising structure, making this a situation warranting a heavy use of stress relieving medication. The solution may lie with an experienced international demolition consultant (where can one apply for such a satisfying job?), that can safely raze this illegality to the ground.

While most folks are unsure of how this will be achieved, we are completely sure that since the builder is footing the bill, it will not be a job for the lowest bidder.
